A NINE-storey 401-bedspace student accommodation complex has been approved for a site to the north of Glasgow City Centre.

The building will be on the former Watson Printers land bounded by Kyle Street, Stafford Street and Calgary Street and will include a ground floor retail/commercial unit and a central courtyard.

Glasgow City Council planners have given permission for the development by the Watkin Jones Group which will be operated and managed by linked company Fresh Student Living.

Documents submitted with the application stated: “The proposals seek to bring forward a suitably designed and configured purpose-built student accommodation development comprising a mix of studio and cluster flat student bed spaces with ancillary student accommodation amenity space.”

The document continues:”It is proposed that a retail user would occupy the ground floor space. This is to be finalised, however discussions in this regard are progressing.”

Accommodation will be made up of 60 studios, 22 five-bed clusters, three six-bed clusters, one seven-bed cluster, 19 eight-bed clusters and six nine-bed-clusters. There will be a reception area, common room, gym and 201-space cycle store.
