‘BOLD And Distinctive’ City Centre Hotel Development Gets Go-Ahead

9 April, 2020 | Hotels

A NEW 14-storey, four-star hotel in Glasgow City Centre has been approved by planners.

The 252-bed development on St Vincent Street at Pitt Street will be the first UK hotel for Austrian operator Vienna House.

A vacant office block will be demolished to make way for the building which will have roof terraces at various levels plus a gym and restaurant.

The planning application was made by developer Artisan Real Estate. A design document submitted to the city council stated: “This represents a very positive new addition to Glasgow City Centre’s tourist economy.”

It also stated: “To reference the traditional use of ceramics in Glasgow and some of the tones that characterise this tradition, we propose using a varied palette of green/teal/turquoise terracotta cladding.

“This will give this new building a bold and distinctive character but one rooted in the context of Glasgow.”
