BUILDING Work To Start On 315-Bed High-Rise Student Development

5 March, 2019 | News, Student Accommodation

CONSTRUCTION is to get underway on a 13-storey student accommodation block between Woodside and Cowcaddens in Glasgow.

The development in New City Road will have 315 bedrooms. The triangular site is just to the north of the M8 motorway and to the east of St George’s Cross.

The building will have a small rooftop garden facing west along Great Western Road. It will also have a walled triangular courtyard garden at ground floor level.

The building’s main entrance, reception, and social spaces will face New City Road.

Glasgow City Council planners gave final approval for the development last year.

Their report stated: “While the approved building is a prominent landmark, the design gives careful consideration of the skyline impact on the city.

“The building’s rigorously geometrical form is a considered solution to the opportunity for a gateway building from the M8 corridor, and has been successfully balanced with its relationship to its other immediate surroundings.”
