ONLINE consultation has started over the massive build-to-rent/co-living development proposed for Charing Cross.

Initial designs show there would be two towers, one with up to 30 floors that would make it Glasgow city centre’s tallest building.

Developer and residential rental property manager Watkin Jones Group wants to deliver the complex with 825 apartments on the site of Portcullis House on India Street, beside the M8 motorway.

The proposals include amenity facilities and potential retail, café and co-working space.

Documents on the consultation website state: “The uses at ground floor will help activate the streets around the building to bring vibrant new activity to this part of the city centre, enlivening the frontage to the M8, creating more of a sense of place around Charing Cross Station and re-establishing this as a people-centric part of the city.”

If approved, works would towards the end of 2021 with completion by 2024.
