24 August, 2020 | News

DISCOUNT supermarket chain Lidl has purchased land in Glasgow’s East End.

The £1million deal for a site on the corner of Springfield Road at Dalmarnock Road is revealed in Glasgow City Council documents.

The vacant land had previously been declared surplus by the local authority.

Lidl has not confirmed if it is planning to develop a store there.

A spokesman said: “As part of our ongoing expansion plans, we continue to explore various new store options across Greater Glasgow, and look forward to sharing any firm plans with the community, as soon as we’re in a position to do so.”

Lidl are already opening additional stores in Finnieston and Robroyston as well as expanding their shop in Maryhill Road. The company has also applied to expand its presence in Jamaica Street in the City Centre.
