GLASGOW Housing Association has been given permission for nearly 50 flats at a site on the city’s south side.

The 49-unit development will be at the northern edge of Govanhill on vacant land bounded by Inglefield Street, Larkfield Street, Cathcart Road and the Millennium Space community park.

There will be a mix of social and mid-market rent units, of one and two bedrooms, in two blocks, one of seven floors and the other with four floors. They will feature deep, external access balconies.

The site was formerly occupied by Hermon Baptist Church and Inglefield Street Women’s Hostel.

A design statement submitted by DO Architecture on the housing association’s behalf explained: “We propose a new residential development that attempts to re-activate the northern end of the block by bringing permanent activity and life back to Inglefield Street and Larkfield Street.”
