QUEEN’S Park Football Club has been given permission to turn its Lesser Hampden training grounds into a league-standard stadium with seating for more than 1,700.

The site, next to Hampden Park on Glasgow’s South Side, will have a new 812-capacity East Stand, and an extended West Stand with room for 900 spectators.

How the extended West Stand will appear

The plans now approved by Glasgow City Council mean seating capacity at the venue will rise from 470 to 1,774.

Refurbishment will also be carried out around the existing Farmhouse and Byre buildings, upgrading current changing rooms.

How the new East Stand will look

The club has been using the adjacent national stadium for its matches but Hampden Park will be owned by the Scottish Football Association from July 2020.

A statement submitted with the application explained: “Queen’s Park will no longer be able to play their 1st XI competitive matches at the National Stadium.

“The club therefore plan to renovate Lesser Hampden to a licensed stadium able to host competitive League and Cup matches.”
