IN Pictures — Garscube Canal Bridge Nearly Ready

18 September, 2020 | In Pictures, Glasgow's Canal

SCOTTISH Canals hope the new pedestrian bridge over Glasgow’s Canal at Garscube will open this month.

It will connect the Garscube Road side of the waterway with Claypits Nature Reserve on the Hamiltonhill side where a new path along the canal between Applecross and Panmure Gate at Firhill Basin is being made.

The bridge is retractable to let boats through. There will be enough space to allow kayakers and canoeists to pass beneath it when it is in the closed position.

A zig-zag path will be constructed on the slope down from the canal to Garscube Road.

Work at the canal includes this boardwalk at Firhill Basin, seen in July
