IN Pictures — Old British Linen Bank Tenement Restored

2 December, 2019 | News, Listed / Historic Buildings

ONE of the last grade-A listed tenements in the Gorbals has been restored.

The former British Linen Bank building in Gorbals Street has been revamped in a £2.6million project by Southside Housing Association working with Page\Park Architects.

Six two-bedroom mid-market rent flats have been provided.

The building dates from 1900 and was designed by architect James Salmon.

As well as bringing back original features such as the former bank windows and shopfront and missing turret and chimneys, Page\Park also introduced artwork to the blank gable, designed by Gorbals Art Project, using laser-cut corten steel.

The new artwork leads from the ground to the turret and will be back-lit at night to create a landmark.
