MAJOR Glasgow Office Development Attracts JPMorgan Chase

17 September, 2019 | News

US financial services firm JPMorgan Chase has been confirmed as the occupant for a massive new office block in Glasgow City Centre.

Planning permission for the 13-storey building in Argyle Street, between Robertson Street and York Street was given to developer Osborne and Co last month.

It will be a base for the company’s technology operations in Glasgow, housing about 2,000 staff who are currently split between two other sites in the city. The development is scheduled for completion in 2022.

JPMorgan Chase said it would include “sustainability-focused features” including energy-efficient lighting, minimised water consumption and more than 350 bicycle spaces.

It added that the move would give the company the “capacity to further grow” in Glasgow, with space available for up to 2,700 employees. It described the move as “just the next step in our unwavering commitment to the city of Glasgow”.

The company established its Glasgow tech centre 20 years ago.  It provides software development, data science and cloud engineering services for its global operations.

Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken said: “We are hugely encouraged by the impressive scale of JPMorgan Chase’s new Glasgow office which offers significant scope for further expansion of its workforce in the city, creating new jobs for our residents, while regenerating a key city centre site.”

A dilapidated B-listed building will be demolished to make way for the development
