PLANNERS have agreed that a cinema can open at a new retail park on Glasgow’s South Side.

City council officials granted permission for a seven-screen venue to be created by merging two of the retail units at the development nearing completion beside Cathcart Road, between the Gorbals and Govanhill.

An application seeking permission to change the use of the shop space was made in February.

The cinema would have a total of 600 seats. No details are given in planning documents regarding who would operate the facility.

The building would also have a restaurant/bar and would be used for conferences and other events outwith movie times.
