STREET Food Operator’s Plan For South Side Vegetarian/Vegan Venue

12 February, 2019 | News, Food and Drink

A VEGETARIAN and vegan community cafe is being proposed for a former dental surgery in Pollokshields.

The application for 260 Maxwell Road has been made street food trader Freddy & Hicks which is changing into a social enterprise to give back to the community.

A change-of-use planning application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council stating the premises, at the corner with Kenmure Street, would primarily be a coffee shop which offers vegetarian and vegan food.

Evening activities are proposed including cookery workshops, homework clubs and book clubs.

The café would run on electricity purchased from the sustainable supplier People’s Energy; would only use compostable takeaway packaging and would incentivize customers to bring reusable cups.

Freddy & Hicks already use seasonal ingredients from local suppliers such as Locavore and Green City and will continue this within the café.

The opening hours would initially be 8.30am to 6pm, increasing to 11pm later.

The application is pending consideration by Glasgow City planners.
