STUDENT Accommodation Dropped From Proposed City Centre Development

28 December, 2018 | News, Student Accommodation

DEVELOPERS have dropped plans for a massive student accommodation block at a high-profile Glasgow City Centre site, but are still hoping to get approval for a 300-bed hotel.

The development is proposed for the corner of Renfrew Street and Renfield Street Glasgow, on part of the old STV studios site, beside the Citizen M hotel.

The four-star hotel would be operated by Dalata Hotels, Ireland’s largest hotel operator, under their Maldron brand. It would have a bar/restaurant and business facilities.

Plans for a 450-bed student residential building have been withdrawn following concerns over parking and residential amenity.

A statement submitted to Glasgow City planners stated: “The site to the north of the proposed hotel block is not intended for development as part of this application, and will therefore remain vacant in the short-term. It is the applicant’s intention to develop this site at a later date.”

The hotel proposal is pending assessment by council officials.
