WEST End Bakery Make Second Attempt At Turning Retail Unit Into Cafe

20 August, 2020 | Food and Drink

COTTONRAKE Bakery has again applied to open a cafe in an empty Glasgow West End shop.

The eatery is proposed for long-term vacant premises at 717 Great Western Road, near the junction with Byres Road.

City officials rejected a previous proposal in January this year stating that lack of appropriate ventilation would mean an adverse effect on nearby flats because of cooking fumes and odours.

The new application seeks permission on the basis that the outlet would run on a ‘restricted cooking’ basis as the operator has its own prep kitchen elsewhere.

Drawings submitted to Glasgow City Council show the cafe would have seating for around 40. Opening hours would be 8am to 8pm.

Cottonrake currently have a bakery at 497 Great Western Road, near Kelvinbridge.

A statement submitted on their behalf explains: “The applicant’s aim for 717 Great Western Road is to introduce a plated version of their already well established and popular product range, with some additional in-house accompaniments.”

The proposal is pending consideration by city planners.
