WEST End Congregation Plan To Demolish Building

9 October, 2019 | News, Churches

A GLASGOW church wants to knock down its building — that’s nearly 140 years old — and build a new one.

Partick Methodist Church in Dumbarton Road opened in 1881, but does not have listed status.

A document submitted to the City Council on behalf of the congregation states: “The building has dry rot. The stone fabric is in a poor state of repair and wiring must be replaced.

“The building is no longer fit for purpose. It is too large for the current congregation, it is difficult to heat and maintain.”

New, more suitable accommodation is planned for the same site.

Approval for demolition is required from the council.
